SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (JUNE 4, 2013) – The Frisco RoughRiders lost just their third game when leading after six innings this season, dropping 2-1 to the San Antonio Missions on Tuesday at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium. The ‘Riders loaded the bases in the ninth with one out but could not come through. The loss was the team’s third straight defeat.

Starting pitcher Tyler Tufts did his part. The Frisco right-hander threw five innings of scoreless baseball. He surrendered a leadoff walk in the first, then set down 12 in-a-row before allowing his first hit to begin the fifth. He left with the lead and in-line for the win.

The lone Frisco run came in the fifth; Tomas Telis fell behind 0-2 against Matt Wisler, making his second start against the RoughRiders, to begin the fifth. The switch-hitting catcher muscled his first home run over the right field fence to put the ‘Riders ahead 1-0.

Phil Klein was first out of the pen for the ‘Riders in the sixth inning. He loaded the bases but did not allow a run thanks in large part to Telis who gunned out an attempting basestealer and then picked off Kalian Sams at first base with the bases loaded to end the inning.

Richard Bleier was not as lucky. A.J. Kirby Jones reached first on a throwing error from Hanser Alberto to put two aboard with nobody out to begin the seventh inning. Rocky Gale then grounded a ball up the middle for the game-tying RBI single. Two batters later, Rico Noel picked up a groundball RBI single himself, giving San Antonio (31-25) the 2-1 lead.

Frisco (32-25) went quietly in eighth but made some noise in the ninth. Guilder Rodriguez led off with a single and then Brett Nicholas was hit by a pitch to put two aboard with nobody out against Missions closer Kevin Quackenbush. He loaded the bases intentionally after a sacrifice bunt and then struck out Telis and got Odubel Herrera to line out to end the ‘Riders threat and the ballgame.

Bleier (0-2) took the loss for Frisco, allowing the two unearned runs in the seventh. Forney High School graduate Josh Geer (2-2) picked up the win for San Antonio. Quackenbush notched his Texas League leading 11th save.

The RoughRiders continue play in San Antonio Wednesday at 7:05 pm against the Missions. Neil Ramirez (5-2, 3.57 ERA) faces off against righty Don Roach (4-4, 4.64 ERA). Fans can tune in to the play-by-play broadcast on www.RidersBaseball.com beginning at 6:40.
