Contrary to its name, Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom was not started in the Windy City. It’s a Boulder, Colorado, restaurant that has since spread through the Rockies and the Midwest. Old Chicago has now made it to Dallas, and on Saturday, the pizza chain hosted a grand opening at its Mockingbird Station digs.
The bar has 36 beers on tap, including locals such as Deep Ellum Brewing Company and Rahr & Sons Brewing Company, and daily Texas beer specials. Then there’s the grub: wings, salads, sandwiches, calzones and, of course, pizza. If you go, be sure to get an order of pepperoni rolls.
Old Chicago serves its made-from-scratch pizza in locations nationwide and offers two crust types that are both made in-house and fresh every day — Chicago Thick, a buttery hand-tossed cornmeal crust, served in the pan; and Tavern Thin, which has a light and crispy texture and is served square-cut.
Some of the most popular specialty pizza selections include:
- Chicago 7 Pizza – Pepperoni, Italian sausage, red onions, black olives, green peppers, sliced mushrooms and house pizza sauce.
- Meat Me Pizza – Four meat toppings, garnished with green olives and fresh basil.
- Thai Pie – Chicken, mushrooms, red peppers, broccoli and Thai chili sauce, topped with green onions, teriyaki, sesame seeds, mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
- Tuscan Chicken with Spinach – Lemon garlic sauce, sun-dried tomatoes, chicken, tomatoes and roasted garlic, topped with fresh spinach tossed in lemon vinaigrette.
The newly opened pizza joint, has a comfortable, neighborhood friendly atmosphere, free WiFi and 18 available 60″ HDTV’s. Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom, is located in Mockingbird Station and is open everyday from 11 AM to 2 AM. Old Chicago has two siblings nearby, with branches of Gordon Biersch at both Park Lane and in Plano’s Shops at Legacy. (Courtesy of Alexandra Olivia at DallasNews.com)
